Presentation summary:

Adams discusses the universal core ethical values and standards for good practice and begins with the golden rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.

If you or a loved one had the same condition as a patient, would you conduct the same examination? If you expect certain things for yourself, why would you choose differently for your patient?

Adams goes on to discuss autonomy and self determination, beneficence, non-maleficence, justice and fairness, confidentiality, and informed consent. She talks about where practitioners can find out which ethical principles apply to them and highlights the importance of knowing the general regulations that apply to all healthcare practitioners and those specific to a particular discipline.

Adams also helps us to understand the difference between ethics and law, and discusses the role and importance of acquiring CPD points.
