In this presentation, Leah begins by discussing the importance of communication in a relationship. She gives us tools on how to feel more connected in our relationships and break free from role fatigue - a common scenario healthcare workers find themselves in. Allowing your family to pull you into different versions of yourself in the home helps you to destress from work.
Creating powerful resilience means you need to be operating at maximum capacity and this is where self-care is critical. Self-care practices include getting proper sleep, creating a separation ritual between work and home, journalling, physical exercise and getting proper nutrition.
Leah warns of the use of unhealthy stress management habits and discusses the risks associated with numbing as opposed to dealing with stress. She outlines effective destressing techniques such as touch, intimacy, soothing light and sound, and doing weekly clearing exercises with your partner and family.
Finally, Leah discusses the importance of managing and communicating expectations with those around you.
