Two Organisations, One Pathway

Who does what on your road to accreditation

The SMHP and the Nutrition Network are two separate organisations that work hand in hand. Here's exactly how the pieces fit together.

The Accrediting Body

Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners

The SMHP is a US-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that sets the standards for metabolic health practice. It reviews applications, grants the accredited Metabolic Health Practitioner (MHP) credential, and lists accredited practitioners in its public directory.

Your membership, application, and final accreditation all sit with the SMHP.

The Approved Training Provider

Nutrition Network

The Nutrition Network is a CPD-accredited education platform founded by The Noakes Foundation. It delivers the core training modules the SMHP requires on the Nutrition Network Pathway, and it's an approved provider of CMHE credits.

Your courses, bundles, and certificates of completion all come from the Nutrition Network.

In short: you train with the Nutrition Network, then you apply to the SMHP. This page gets you the training at a bundled discount. Accreditation questions go to support@thesmhp.org; course and enrolment questions come to us.

Why the MHP credential matters

Metabolic health is moving into the mainstream fast. Accreditation puts a recognised standard behind your name before your clients ask for one.

Use the MHP credentials

Accredited practitioners earn the right to use the MHP designation, certifying you meet SMHP standards of knowledge and competence in metabolic health.

Get found by patients and clients

Accredited MHPs are listed in the SMHP practitioner directory, where patients and clients actively search for qualified metabolic health support.

Practice with confidence

The core training covers the science, clinical application, and ethics of therapeutic carbohydrate restriction, taught by leading doctors and scientists in the field.

The Road to Accreditation

Five steps from where you are now to accredited MHP

This is the full SMHP accreditation process. The Nutrition Network bundles on this page cover the training in steps 2 and 3.

1

Join the SMHP

All applicants must be active SMHP members in good standing. If you haven't joined yet, you can become a member on the SMHP website.

2

Complete your core training You are here

On the Nutrition Network Pathway, coaches and medical practitioners each complete a set of required core modules. The bundles below package everything you need at a discount.

3

Earn 60 CMHE credits

Accumulate 60 Continuing Metabolic Health Education credits from an SMHP-approved provider. These must come from outside your core modules. More on this below.

4

Upload your certificates

Add your course certificates and required documents to your SMHP member profile before applying.

5

Submit your application

Fill in the Accreditation Application Form and submit it to the SMHP Review Committee. Once approved, you're an accredited MHP.

Don't Forget Your Credits

The 60 CMHE credits, explained

Alongside your core modules, the SMHP requires 60 Continuing Metabolic Health Education (CMHE) credits from an approved provider. One important rule: these credits cannot come from the core modules in your bundle. So the Ethics module's credits won't count toward your 60, but credits from other Nutrition Network modules, like Reversing Diabetes, will.

60
CMHE credits needed for initial accreditation on this pathway
30
Credits per year to maintain your accreditation once earned
12+
Approved CMHE providers, including the Nutrition Network

The easiest place to earn them? Right here. The Nutrition Network is an approved provider, and the courses in our full course catalogue carry CPD points, so you can build your 60 credits on the same platform where you complete your core training.

"I've been using Nutrition Network training for the last few years for both CPD purposes and expanding my knowledge further with in-depth courses. They are by far the best training provider I have ever used. They are a friendly, welcoming bunch. The lecturers are extremely knowledgeable, helpful and insightful and the information is rooted firmly in science."

★★★★★
"This is THE place to be to become an expert in metabolic health. Everything that's taught here is evidence-based. I have studied nutrition and health coaching in three other institutions and while I learned a lot there, there was also a lot that I was taught that didn't really have much scientific basis to it, whereas the Nutrition Network is really the real deal and if I could go back in time, I would have started my education there but better late than never!"

"The Nutrition Network is a highly trusted organisation. It teaches the truth about Nutrition. It teaches the truth about health. No conflict of interest, no commercial sponsorships, no lies. I highly recommend the organisation and the training it provides."

Frequently asked questions

The answers referred visitors ask most often.

Medical and allied healthcare practitioners (doctors, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, and similar clinical qualifications) take the Medical bundle. Coaches, wellness professionals, and non-medical practitioners take the Coaches bundle, which adds the Foundations of Metabolic Coaching training as your required starting point. If you're unsure which category applies to you, email support@thesmhp.org and the SMHP team will confirm.
Not by itself, and we'd rather be upfront about that. The bundle covers all your required core training, which is the biggest part of the pathway. You'll also need active SMHP membership, 60 CMHE credits from outside the core modules, and an approved application to the SMHP Review Committee. Steps 1 to 5 above walk through the full process.
They're two separate organisations. The SMHP is the accrediting body: it sets the standards, reviews applications, and grants the MHP credential. The Nutrition Network is an SMHP-approved training provider: it delivers the core modules and CMHE-eligible courses on the Nutrition Network Pathway. Training and enrolment questions come to us; accreditation questions go to support@thesmhp.org.
Yes. If you took the Professional Training in LCHF/Ketogenic Nutrition and Treatment, it remains valid as part of the eligibility criteria in place of the Ketogenic course. The same goes for the old Advisor Training, which remains valid in place of Foundations of Metabolic Coaching. You'd only need to complete the remaining required modules.
From any SMHP-approved provider, as long as the credits don't come from your core modules. The simplest route is our own course catalogue: every course carries CPD points, and courses outside your bundle (like Reversing Diabetes) count toward your 60 credits. You can complete your core training and your credits in one place.
Students unsatisfied with their purchase may contact support in the first 30 days after making the purchase and we will issue a full refund. Please note that a refund will only be issued if 30% or less of the Training has been completed.
You'll receive your enrolment link by email straight after purchase. Follow the steps in that email and all your courses will appear in your Course Directory once you've logged in to the training platform.

Your patients and clients are already asking about metabolic health. Be the accredited answer.

Start your core training today with everything the SMHP requires, bundled at a discount, and take the first real step toward your MHP credential.
